Summer 2014 - Days 51 & 52

Thursday, August 7th - Day 51

Since Joe is out of town, it's just me and my sweet boy for a couple of days!  Ryan and I started the day by building towers with his new building blocks.  He's really seeming to enjoy these blocks and wants to take some in the car with him when we go anywhere, wants to take one to bed with him when it's naptime, etc.  We like to build the "tallest tower in the world", just like in Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.
Making a funny face for Daddy!

Building towers with his new blocks!

We went for a run after breakfast, and Ryan enjoyed watching an episode of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood on the iPad while I showered.  Before technology, what did people do with a toddler when they needed to take a shower??

We met up with a friend for lunch at Cantina 18 in Cameron Village and Ryan had a ball trying to get her to taste different hot sauces.  After lunch, we went to Oma and Opa's house to see them and to play basketball.  Oma and Opa also got some branches/trees cut down in their backyard - one of which was the branch that held the tire swing from my childhood (sad!)....but all this open space means there's more room for a trampoline (coming soon)!

Despite his expression, Ryan loves this picnic table.

After spending some time outside, Oma and Ryan made a special pancake and played a couple of rounds of basketball.

"I want to add the cinnamon"

MONEY SHOT!

After spending time at Oma and Opa's house, we came home, took a nap, built some more towers with Ryan's new blocks, ate a nice dinner of rice crispies and strawberries.  After dinner, we took a walk around the neighborhood and then I treated Ryan to a very special treat of frozen yogurt.  He was SO EXCITED to have his own bowl and pick out his own toppings!

Building towers again?  Don't mind if I do!
SO HAPPY to be eating frozen yogurt!
Another great day with my sweet boy!

Friday, August 8th - Day 52

Ryan slept in this morning until almost 9am!  It's such a beautiful treat when he does this!  After a breakfast of rice crispies and strawberries (again) and watermelon, we went to the sprayground at Waverly Place for the first time.
Smile for Daddy!
A little suspicious of the fountains.

Once he got the hang of it, Ryan really enjoyed getting squirted and sprayed!

Waiting for the water to come out!

Trying to catch the water!

I have mixed reviews of the sprayground and playground, but overall, I think Ryan had a great time.  It wasn't the best day weather-wise (cloudy/overcast and very muggy) but overall, it was nice to switch it up and do something a little different.

While climbing, Ryan kept saying "this is too scary!" but that clearly didn't deter him from continuing to climb.

Still clearly VERY scared to climb...

Making a swing out of something that is most definitely not a swing.
When we came home (we saw a turtle on our street!), I gave Ryan a haircut (I only have a "before" picture right now).  One of these days, I'll take him to a real place, but right now, I seriously can't justify spending $20 on his hair especially when he needs a haircut about once every few weeks (I know, I'm cheap).
"Mommy, is this a nice turtle?  Does it want to eat some granola bar?"

Goodbye, helmet head!
We met some friends for lunch today and it was so nice to catch up with them!  After lunch, we came home and took a nap.  Joe ended up coming home around 5pm and we are both so glad that he's home.  We ate an awesome dinner of pizza and went for our after-dinner walk around the neighborhood.  We're glad Joe's home :)
